In Fujairah, Fujairah Fort stands on a hill above the old city, offering a clear sense of the defensive role these buildings once played. The official tourism authority dates the fort to the sixteenth century and identifies it as one of the emirate’s largest forts. Its position, around 20 metres above sea level and roughly three kilometres inland, gives it a commanding outlook across the city.
